After 66 games the Reds are as mediocre as it gets. They have won 33 and lost 33. They have great pitching and subpar hitting. The team gets hot and they get cold. Despite the average, Reds they have a few players that are not only above average, but may very well be playing in the 2025 All Star Game at Atlanta’s Truist field.
The biggest surprise thus far for the 2025 season is T.J. Friedl. Friedl has come out of nowhere to be one of the best center fielders in all of baseball. He has been, by far, the Reds’ most consistent hitter. Friedl is currently knocking on the .300 door at .292. The Pennsylvania native is having his best season yet as a Red. He has played in 62 of the 66 Reds games this season. Around the league, Friedl does not have the big name usually required to be on the All Star team at this point in his career. His play will have to be above and beyond what all other center fielders in the National League are doing.
Pitching has been the backbone of the Reds’ success this season. The team has had two studs in Andrew Abbott and Hunter Green. Abbott has been the healthiest, most consistent Red on the pitchers mound this season. Abbott is in the midst of his best MLB season thus far. He is 5-1 with a 2-18 ERA. The Virginia native was drafted in 2021 and has flourished into being the Reds’ most consistent pitcher.
If Abbott is the Reds’ most consistent, then Hunter Greene in Cincy’s stud. Greene is a first round selection with rare talent. He has the potential to be one of the greatest pitchers ever to come into the Reds organization. The only downside to Greene is he is injury prone. He is currently on his second stint on the disable list in 2025. Currently he’s 4-3 with a 2.72 ERA
When you hear Cincinnati Reds, you think one person. Elly De La Cruz. Del La Cruz is one of the most ballyhooed players in all of baseball. He may be the most talented player in the sport today. De La Cruz will likely get the nod as an All-Star. His numbers are good, but not great. Hitting .253, De La Cruz is tied for 28th in MLB with 12 homers. He is tied for 15th with 43 RBI’s.Â
The MLB All Stars will be announced in early July. A title may be a ways away, but the Cincy will be represented by some good talent in the mid-summer classic.
